The Boys and Girl from County Clare

The Boys and Girl from County Clare cover

Plot

It's time for the "All-Ireland Traditional Music Competition", and bands from all over the country are arriving to see who can win the trophy. Among them are two rivaling Ceili (pronounced Kay-le) bands, one from Ireland, the other from Liverpool, which are lead by the two brothers John Joe and Jimmy who haven't spoken to each other in 20 years. But when Anne, John Joe's best fiddle player, falls in love with Jimmy's best flut player, tensions are running high - this feud can't go on forever.

Movie

"The Boys and Girl from County Clare" is a nice little Irish movie with all the right ingredients to make it a crowd pleaser. It successfully toured a lot of film festivals after premiering at the Toronto film festival in 2003.

This movie will certainly remain in Andrea Corr's memory for a very long time, since it was not only her first bigger role onscreen, but also because she met her then boyfriend Shaun Evans (Teddy) on the set.

Andrea's Role

Andrea plays Anne, Jimmy's long lost daughter. She plays the violin John Joe's Ceili band and is kept on a tight leash by her mother Maisie, who wants to protect her from all the evil men out there. However, once Anne gets to know Teddy, she doesn't want to listen to her Mum any more and runs away to be with Teddy.

In the end, she can't live without either of them: her mother, the music and Teddy, and she is very happy when it all comes together finally.

What To Look For

On the whole Andrea's role is rather big, so she shows up very often.
