Plot
Jimmy Rabbitte lives in Dublin but dreams of bringing a soul band to life - in the middle of chippie shacks, abandoned buildings and dirty tower blocks. Having found the right group of aspiring musicians however doesn't solve any of his problems; rather, after some initial success, the personal problems are risking the still young band.
Movie
"The Commitments" is a deeply funny film with lots of good music, and despite its bitter-sweet ending, ultimately uplifting. It was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe and won several BAFTAs and Brit Awards.
More importantly for Corrs fans, "The Commitments" was the reason we can enjoy the band as we do today. All four of them auditioned for the movie, and even though only Andrea landed a speaking role, they can all be seen in the film:
- Jim is glimpsed for a milisecond behind a keyboard when the Avant-Garde-A-Clue band is onstage.
- You have to be on guard to catch Caroline in the audience during the performance of "I Never Loved A Man".
- Sharon finally is perhaps most easily recognizable because she already does what she is still doing now: play the violin. She is spotted onstage with the Country band Bernie joins towards the end of the movie, hence her cowboy hat.
Not to forget that it was here the Corrs met John Hughes, the film's musical coordinator, who then became their manager (and still is).
Andrea's Role
Sharon, the little sister of hero Jimmy Rabbitte. Her role isn't really big, but she gets to say some lines.
