Trivia

Andrea played piano herself on all the tracks of "Ten Feet High".

"Hello Boy", the album's opening song, shows quite an unfamiliar side of Andrea. The song is about a special madam in a brothel who is the most desired woman of the establishment.

"I Do" is, rather unsurprisingly, about a fairy tale wedding.

The title "Ten Feet High" is taken from a song of the same name. Says Andrea, "I suppose music does elevate. Metaphorically, it can make you taller than you are..." The song supposedly deals with her break-up with former boyfriend Shaun Evans.

"Take Me I'm Yours" is a the album's only cover version and originally by British New Wave band Squeeze from the 1980s. At first, Andrea wasn't sure whether she really wanted to do a cover version but producer Nellee Hooper played her this song from his huge vinyl collection, saying it was perfect for her, and so she agreed.

The ballad "Ideal World" centers on the hopelessness of being able to live a perfect life. Violinist Simon Hewitt Jones has been hired for this song.

According to Andrea "Stupidest girl in the world" deals with the self-destructing tendencies everybody has when growing up: "That song is really about becoming complacent, and before you know it you're back in a situation that's not good for you, and it's generally to do with relationships, and I think everybody has done that, where you know this relationship is wrong, but oh my God, here I go again."

"The album isn't necessarily about showing the world the real me", says Andrea. "It's nothing that contrived. No, this is just an album where I've had fun and adventure; I'm thrilled with the results. Even if it won't be that big, I can die happily someday just because I did this album. Of course I'm hoping it will be successful, I think the record deserves it."

Asked whether the album represents a conscious effort to let go of her Corrs image, Andrea notes, "I only just write what's natural to me. I don't write to reveal or be understood. I write because I want to, and I have to, and it's what I do. This record is obviously very different from the Corrs. I'm obviously very proud of the music of the Corrs, but it's just me by myself, so it's bound to be different."

About working with Nellee Hooper: "I loved him from Björk's debut album, which is one of my favourite albums. I'd heard him described as more like a director of movies than a producer, and the way the songs are, they're so story-based so, in a way they're like little films, and that's the way both myself and Nellee saw it so that's why the album is quite eclectic, there's a different feel the whole way through to do with the different stories. I learned so much from him. He has a different way of working than anyone else I've known and really brings the stories to life. He really listens to the lyrics, and I really like that, and he'll further emphasise what you're trying to say within it and just add to the whole picture of it, the whole scenario and the scene. [But] I don't idolise him, no. I have the height of respect for him and I think he's a great person, but I think idolatry would really be the wrong thing!"

"Ten Feet High" entered the Irish top 100 albums charts at #24.
