Video
Director: Kevin Godley
Shot in London on March 15th and 16th, 2004. Andrea explains that she thinks visual expression of a song is definitely something you have your mind on when you are writing a song, and that a music video is one way of showing the depth of a song. Especially in this case, with the happy music but sad lyrics, a video offers the opportunity to reveal "Summer Sunshine" to be a rather poignant song reminiscent of a lost love. As Andrea puts it, it has a strong vibe of "I want that back" in it.
Sharon notes that it hasn't always been easy to come across convincingly in music videos because after all, they are musicians and no actors. So they rely heavily on the director to tell them whether they were good or not but mostly directors tend to remain silent when everything went well. Andrea on the other hand enjoys acting very much and also admits that she needs to act out the lyrics during live performances to get rid of her nerves.
Trivia
First publicly performed on March 1st, 2004 at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards in Dublin.
"Summer Sunshine" was written by Andrea on the piano in her house. The theme of a bitter-sweet love song stems from a club called "The Bitter End" in Greenwich Village (an area of New York) to which Andrea came up with "sweet beginnings". In general, it is a song about unexpected love; for Andrea it's more about privacy and having to hide her love. As with "No More Cry" or "Angel", the sad lyrics contrast with the uplifting music.
"Summer Sunshine" is available in two remixes: a rather ordinary remix by Ferndando Garibay which is very much like the remixes done of "Dreams". Garibay is mostly known for remixing songs by Will Smith, Mya or Sting and lately also for writing Enrique Iglesias' single "I'm not in love". Then there is the pretty unusual trance remix by Ford, the self-titled "Trance commander." He has done remixes for Jewel, Craig David or Jennifer Lopez to name a few.
The acoustic version of "Summer Sunshine" was recorded as part of the "Borrowed Heaven" EPK (= electronic press kit). It also features acoustic versions of "Angel", "Goodybe", "Hideaway", "Humdrum", "Long Night" and "Silver Strand" as well as a 30 minute documentary with interviews in which the Corrs talk about the new album.
This single debuted at #6 in the UK single charts.
